Letter to a Stranger

by LT Bobby Ross
Hello Troop, this is Bobby. you don't know me and I don't know you, but I met your mom a couple of days ago and she told me all about you. Hear you're in the 101st Airborne. You know I was, too, and so was my dad. He fought in WW II. He landed in Europe the night before D- Day in Normandy, and fought his way from there to Berlin. He was in Korea as well, where he gave his life for the good ole USA. Me? Well, Vietnam was my hell. Guess I don't have to tell you about that. It was a different time, confusing and complicated, with a whole new set of issues and justifications, So you're not alone. All of us Eagles have known the sights and sounds of war for decades. Yeah, I know it's been tough, but hang in there, Troop. I'm with ya. And so is every Eagle that came before you. Just remember this…
We're all Screaming Eagles,
Band of Brothers one for all,
and we fight for this great Nation,
so we never see her fall.
First to land and last to leave there,
and take a stand to the last man,
'cause we're all Screaming Eagles,
Band of Brothers one for all.
I hear that this is your third tour in Afghanistan and you've got two kids and a wife. Whoa, man, that's a tough way to go but I know you're doing your duty and using your training to survive it all.
War's a tough business and not for the faint of heart, but you Troop you represent the best of what this great country has to offer. So keep your powder dry and come back home to live and prosper. Because after all, We're all Screaming Eagles.
We're all Screaming Eagles,
Band of Brothers one for all,
and we fight for this great Nation,
so we never see her fall.
First to land and last to leave there,
and take a stand to the last man,
'cause we're all Screaming Eagles,
Band of Brothers one for all.
'cause we're all Screaming Eagles,
Band of Brothers,
one for all!
